The Holbrook-Palmer Park Foundation (HPPF) was established in 1965 to receive donations for the Town of Atherton to develop the twenty-two acre site of Elmwood for the enjoyment of residents and the community. The Foundation and Dames Executive Board meets the first Monday of the month.
In 1968, the Atherton Dames organization was formed as an auxiliary to HPPF. They were the fund-raising arm providing capital improvements to enhance the Park's attractiveness, higher utilization, and to help develop an active community center in the park. The Dames Steering Committee - appointed by the President - along with officers and standing committee chairs meet the second Friday of the month. Two general meetings are held in the spring and fall for HPPF and Dames members as well as prospective members.
The Atherton Dames is an organization of women working together to make a difference in our community. We were organized in 1968 for the express purpose of being the fund raising arm to provide capital improvements for the twenty-two acre Holbrook-Palmer Park located at 150 Watkins Avenue between El Camino Real and Middlefield Road.
For the 2005-2006 year, our big fundraising goal is to raise funds needed for a matching grant in order to open the Park to a new group of visitors by creating a Baby Carriage Entrance at the far northwest corner of the park. In order to reach our goal we are presenting our Bi-Annual Kitchen Tour in April of 2006. Of course, we expect not only Babyies, but cyclists, walkers and perhaps even train travellers coming to use our beautiful Park for a weekend picnic.
The Atherton Dames are a group of doers of all ages - singles, married, housewives, career women - young mothers to great grandmothers and I encourage you to join us. What the Dames offer to you is the opportunity to mingle with old friends, make new friends, meet your neighbors, enjoy the camaraderie but most importantly know that you have committed yourself to making a difference in our community.
Non-residents of Atherton are welcome to join us as Friends of the Park. We have planned a total of nine community events from September 2005to May 2006 for you and your family and friends to participate in and enjoy.
By joining the Holbrook - Palmer Park Foundation/ Atherton Dames,
your dues will help provide the organization with funds for operating
the office and for future capital improvements. We are a volunteer
organization and only ask that you give as much of your time as you
are available!
For more information about the Foundation - Atherton Dames, please call Pattie DeWalt at the Foundation Office at 650-752-0536 Monday thru Thursday. You many also call our Membership Chair, Estelle Hoffman at 650 366-9069.
Be a part of the legacy of the Park and enjoy the serenity of this beautiful spot on earth.
We look forward to hearing from you.
